Are you a hands-on systems engineer who thrives in operational depth and wants to own the infrastructure that the rest of engineering runs on? At Telavox, we run our own infrastructure. On-prem Kubernetes, our own Ceph clusters, and a fleet of physical servers across six countries. We are providers of infrastructure, not consumers of cloud.
Telavox is a fast-growing digital telco that combines the reliability of telecom with the agility of SaaS across Europe and beyond. As our platform grows in usage and geographic footprint, we need someone who can carry real day-to-day operational ownership while helping us level up how we work.
We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team. On-prem is a deliberate choice. It is what our product and economics demand, and we are investing in operating it well.
This role spans both the operational and the architectural. Some days, you are deep in a cluster issue or pushing through an upgrade. Other days, you are designing how things should work at scale and building the processes that make the team more effective. Both matter equally here. We are not expecting you to master every corner of our stack from day one - if you bring real depth in one or two areas, the team has you covered on the rest.
Your day-to-day work includes:
Keep clusters healthy, respond to issues, and help with capacity and upgrades across our compute and storage infrastructure.
Design how things should work over time. Upgrade procedures across regions, runbooks for recurring operations, and automation for what is currently manual.
Carry that work out in practice. Automation is the direction, but some manual work will always exist for the not-yet-automated, or what cannot reasonably be automated. You would be comfortable with both ends.
Contribute to architecture and tooling decisions in the areas you are strong in, and learn from teammates in the areas you are not.
The three areas you would work across:
Kubernetes on-prem is the runtime for most of our application workloads. Cluster lifecycle management - upgrades, capacity, and version drift across regions - is a real area we want to invest in.
Ceph (block and S3) is gaining traction across our regions, with Sweden running the largest footprint. The core challenge is getting the operational foundations right before adoption forces the issue. Stability, security, and predictable scaling need to be solved at 1x, not 10x.
Server and OS fleet management spans six countries. Most sites are small; Sweden is the largest. We use Ansible-driven configuration and want to keep tightening the lifecycle - upgrade procedures, patching cadence, and drift control.
How we work together:
You'd join Infrastructure Engineering, around 15 people across two groups (Network and Developer Platform).
The role is in Malmö at Gjuteriet, our new vibrant HQ. Sites in other countries are managed remotely — occasional travel is possible but not expected.
No mandatory on-call rotation. There's a shared org-wide on-call line, and Compute and Storage have an informal secondary list, called maybe 1-3 times a month total per domain.
We use Claude Code across engineering, including infrastructure. You'd join the team in figuring out where and how it can be safely and usefully applied to platform work.
You are an autonomous engineer who is comfortable taking an unclear problem, scoping it, and seeing it through. You see automation as the direction, even when today's task is manual. Repetition is a trigger for automation, and risk is something you factor in from the start, not discover at the end.
You are pragmatic enough to roll up your sleeves when the automation is not there yet, knowing that some tasks will always require a human touch.
We are looking for someone with:
Strong Linux fundamentals are a must-have; it is the substrate everything else sits on
Operational depth in at least one of: on-prem Kubernetes operations, Ceph or comparable distributed storage, or server and OS fleet lifecycle management
Comfortable owning work autonomously, taking an unclear problem, scoping it, and seeing it through
Strongly valued:
A second area from the list above
Experience with Ansible or comparable configuration management
Track record of operating systems at scale across geographically distributed sites
Comfort with sub-OS work (firmware, BIOS, BMC/IPMI) is a nice addition, since we do some of that ourselves
It´s a mid-to-senior level role, with a path toward Senior and eventually Domain Owner in Compute or Storage as you build context.
