Mechanical Design Engineer

Step into the role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at MilDef, you will work within a project team responsible for mechanical solutions and design structures in both internal and customer-specific projects. You will create manufacturing drawings and also test and verify the mechanical design within the project scope. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with other disciplines within the Engineering Department, providing support within your field of expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities within assigned product development projects, ensuring compliance with environmental durability requirements - including vibration and shock resistance per military standards - while also meeting ingress protection (IP) specifications.

• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) and technical documentation to support traceable design history, efficient manufacturing, and long-term serviceability.

• Provide mechanical engineering expertise throughout the product development process to ensure robust, integrated, and manufacturable design solutions.

• Collaborate closely within cross-functional project teams to enable effective mechanical–electrical co-design throughout the product development process.

• Lead prototype assembly, perform mechanical validation testing, and refine designs through structured troubleshooting and verification.

• Ensure design documentation and configuration data comply with MilDef’s quality standards, PLM protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Report design progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders, supporting proactive decision-making and on-time project delivery.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, product development, or a related technical field.

• At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.

• Proven proficiency with CAD tools and application of design-for-manufacturing principles within production-focused engineering environments.

• Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional team environment.

• Fluency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
