Environmental and Permitting Specialist

We are looking for an Environmental and Permitting Specialists to Fortum’s Wind and Solar business, which is responsible for the development of wind and solar business. Our aim is to grow especially in our home market where conditions for wind and solar power are excellent. Wind and solar power play a crucial role in decarbonization of our societies. 

The location of the position depends on your preference and can be in any region of Sweden. We have offices for example in Stockholm, Östersund, Karlstad Göteborg and Malmö. 

About the role 

As an Environmental and Permitting Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring that our solar and wind energy projects meet all environmental requirements and obtain the necessary permits. You will work closely with project managers, technical teams, legal team and authorities to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and minimize environmental impact. The role will also involve you in the development of hybrid projects where we combine wind, solar, battery energy storage (BESS) and other renewable energy sources. 

In the role, the following will be part of your responsibilities:  

• In collaboration with your colleagues in the wind and solar development team, you will support in, and coordinate permitting processes for solar and wind projects 

• Conduct environmental assessments and risk analyses 

• Ensure projects comply with current environmental legislation and regulations 

• Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans 

• Liaise with authorities, consultants and the general public in connection with environmental assessments.  

• The role also includes working strategically with sustainability and biodiversity, which is a prioritized focus area for the company. 

• Monitor and report on environmental performance and compliance 

You will be reporting to the Head of Development Sweden. 

About you 

• Relevant university degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or similar. 

• Several years of experience in environmental and permitting work within solar and/or wind energy or other relevant area.  

• Good knowledge of Swedish environmental legislation and permitting processes. 

• Strong analytical skills and experience in environmental assessments. 

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. 

• Ability to work independently and drive projects forward. 

• Fluency in Swedish and English is essential
