Master's Thesis / Internship in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) at Livoo AB

Are you passionate about sustainable food systems and want to put your skills into practice in a real-world setting? At Livoo AB, we’re looking for a motivated and curious master’s student to join us for an internship or thesis project focused on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge sustainability topics, contribute to meaningful industry change, and be part of developing an upcycled food ingredient with real impact.

You'll be working at the intersection of food innovation and environmental science, supported by our sustainability lead and connected to factory partners and production data. Whether you're already experienced with LCA tools or looking to deepen your knowledge through applied research, this role offers a chance to grow your skills in a supportive, purpose-driven environment.

Who are we looking for?

We welcome students in the final year of their master's program, ideally in fields such as:

  • Environmental Engineering
  • Industrial Ecology
  • Food Technology (with a focus on sustainability)
  • Environmental Sciences or Climate & Sustainability Management
  • Biotechnology (with interest in sustainability metrics)

You should have a solid understanding of LCA methodology (ISO 14040/14044), including key concepts like functional units, system boundaries, and allocation principles. Experience with tools like SimaPro, openLCA or GaBi i highly valuable, and familiarity with databases such as Ecoinvent and Agribalyse, as well as the Product Environmental Footprint (EF 3.0), is a plus.

You hold a valid driver’s license (category B).

What will you work on?

As part of this role, you’ll have the chance to conduct a full LCA study from start to finish. One potential thesis project could focus on:

“Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of an Upcycled Oat Ingredient (OATup) Against Conventional Protein and Fiber Sources”

The work will include:

  • Defining the goal and scope of the study

  • Collecting and handling LCI data (transport, energy, water, yield, waste)

  • Performing impact assessment across categories like climate change, land use, and eutrophication

  • Comparing results with conventional ingredients such as soy, pea, wheat, or whey protein

  • Exploring different scenarios (e.g., green energy use, local sourcing, co-product valorization)

When and where?

  • Remote or hybrid internship (depending on where you’re based)
  • Duration: 4–6 months (internship) or 6–9 months (thesis)
  • Start: Flexible (preferably Sept 2025)

Your background and interests

We’re looking for someone who’s:

  • Passionate about sustainability and food innovation

  • Interested in circular systems and the potential of upcycling side-streams

  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams (e.g. marketing, supply chain)

  • Proactive, curious, and open to learning as you go

What you'll get from us

This isn’t just another school project. You’ll be working on a real sustainability case, one that will be used to support environmental claims for a novel food product. Along the way, you’ll receive:

  • Guidance and mentorship from our in-house sustainability lead

  • Access to real production data and industry partners

  • Opportunities to publish or present your findings

  • A chance to see your work implemented in the market

  • The potential to continue working with us in a sustainability role after your thesis or internship
