Senior Expert, Licensing

About the role
The Regulatory Affairs team is responsible for obtaining all licenses and permits and managing the regulatory interface for new nuclear. We are a core team that creates and implements the licensing and permitting strategy to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, manages the development of applications and regulatory submittals and makes sure all interaction with regulators and authorities is running smoothly. We actively follow and influence the latest national and international developments in legislation, regulations and regulatory practices.
We are now looking for a Senior Expert, Licensing. In this role you will focus on ensuring that the reactor technologies Fortum is considering can be licensed in Sweden. You will have an exciting opportunity to take part in the early development of new nuclear and to contribute to its success by ensuring the regulatory landscape supports nuclear newbuild and that licenses and approvals are obtained in a timely manner.
Your position in the organization is in the Regulatory Affairs team of New Nuclear business line, located in Solna, Sweden. However regular travelling to other Fortum office locations and to external international vendors and partners is to be expected.

 

Your main focus areas are:

  • Contribute to developing, defining and implementing a licensing strategy that ensures compliance with the Swedish nuclear legislation and the associated decrees and regulatory requirements, especially with regards to nuclear safety
  • Liaise and cooperate with vendors and suppliers to evaluate and ensure licensability of the potential plant technologies
  • Coordinate and oversee the liaison and interaction with Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM) and other relevant authorities and ministries and support establishing strong relationships with regulatory bodies
  • Develop application documents in close cooperation with cross-functional experts ensuring the compliance, completeness and accuracy of the applications and submittals
  • Follow and influence the renewal of the nuclear energy legislation and regulations and the development of national and international practices in order to enable smooth implementation of the nuclear newbuild project
  • Support licensing activities in Finland if needed

 

More detailed focus areas and assignments can be determined based on the applicant’s experience. In this role you will also coordinate and guide other experts in assignments. 

 

About you
We expect you to have strong experience and competencies in nuclear safety and knowhow and understanding of the Swedish regulatory requirements and their application to nuclear power plants. In order to be successful in this role, you need to have the capability for big picture thinking and a development-oriented mindset, but also be able to check and ensure correctness of details. 
Furthermore, you have a relevant education background and working with various different internal and external stakeholders should come naturally for you. You have good oral and written communication and language skills in both Swedish and English.
